Simpleton

Man, I should've asked my dad about getting an instrument months ago. The Accent sale has been over for about 9 days already. The sax I want could've been 15% off! Don't say '15% nia' please. That's more than $600! (so you can guess the price of the horn [another term for instrument] I want) Did my research on the horn I want, and only seen good stuff about it. Even a Singapore reviewer said it was good. And P. Mauriat cases are damn damn nice please. It looks a small luggage, with extra compartments and stuff. Sigh, just need to do well for my EOYs. Need to buck up alot now, my chem test sucked. Now need to look forward to Phy and Bio on Thursday. Hopefully can revise some bio tonight.

Hmmm, just need to convince my dad that the P. Mauriat is the one for me. I may not want a second hand Selmer from his friend - even if it's an S80 series II.

Anyway, POP is this Friday. Gerald & my tag hasn't been made yet, and venturing around Golden Mile Complex was useless today. Teo Locksmith was closed, and on the way back, got sudden headache (probably car sick or something, been happening to me alot) and my sorethroat is back. Well, it wasn't actually virtually gone, because the doctor didn't prescribe any throat lozenges during the last time I met her. Daily indulges of fizzy drinks and fried savouries don't help - obviously.

SIgh, just hope to get the sax by September or the latest by next year. After passing out next year, no instrument to play with (but must focus on O's of course)

He who doesn't know, doesn't know.

Asked my dad about getting an instrument. He kinda agreed but with the usual 'must do well in your studies' thing. Maybe by the end of the year, so I shouldn't get fixated with this thought of having my own sax.

Either a 2nd hand Selmer or a first hand P. Mauriat (hopefully Accent still has promotions until then) Always good to have a dad who has contacts with people =)

I hate napping (after the nap of course)

I just realized I got a couple of things to do tonight.

i. Math homework
ii. History presentation
iii. Geography test to mug for
iv. English stuff

Dunno how to do the third one, since I don't even have a textbook.
Think I go early cope someone's book to study.

At least, my Threadless shirt order will be ordered on midnight.

I just realized I may not make it for BayBeats (look at the sidebar for info)
3rd - Totally can't make it, POP
4th - Probably after SSW (which means lugging the tenor to the Esplanade)
5th - Probably after the performance

And I realize someone's tagging Joshua's board under my name.
Curse your life into eternal damnation in hell, whoever you are.
Well, I can't help if someone likes my name so much.

The boy who cried 'Wolfe!'

Yesterday was kinda fun. Even though I wasted 18 smackeroos going to Sembawang, but what's done is obviously, well - done. After some Third Symphony self-practising (I think I'm playing tenor in SSW) went to AMK Hub with Mr Ng, Tianze, Jonas and the twins. Went to the arcade, where we met the birthday boy (Freaky Fikri, *cough*) and went to watch Mr Ng own at Time Crisis. Then Mr Ng left and we went to Pizza Hut to have lunch/dinner (linner/dunch whatever) then I went to accompany to watch the funniest movie (this year, the least) - THE SIMPSONS!

The movie is freakin' hilarious la please. Pure Simpsons humour. Then went back home.

So today.. well planning to play my sax (even though I don't have Third Symphony tenor sax part yet) until 2, then meet my friend to pass him something, then go back and do some homework and physics/bio revision for this Thursday.

I found some nice quartet music for free (uploaded by the composer) on the net. Originally for flute, alto sax, bassoon and cello (which is a weird combination, but sounds really nice) and he arranged for saxophone quartet. The bassoon/tenor sax parts are kinda boring so I'm indulging in the alto sax part, especially movement 4. Wa damn nice sia, something else to add to my repertoire. Dunno if I should let my MSSMB saxes try this.

The Five People You Meet In Heaven.

I've finish reading 'The Five People You Meet In Heaven' in the afternoon. And straight away after band practice, I took a quick shower and watched the TV movie adaptation of this great book.

The book, is a good one. Heck, it's a great one. It's must-read at least, for everyone. Some find it confusing, *cough*Ivan*cough*, some find it boring *cough*Gary*cough*Gerald*cough*, and well, some might find it one of the best books ever to be written..(no cough) But well, I'm a believer in the phrase - "To each, their own", even though sometimes I contradict that phrase I live up to.

So yeah, the movie was is great. Even though the book calls for alot of, well.., technical work such as : suddenly switching from a Philippine war ground to some tropical island or appearing on snowy mountain tops. But hey, it's a TV movie made in 2003. I bet movies then, had about the same graphic value as this.. I think.

-may contain some spoilers about the book/movie. you have been warned-

Well, it was kinday cheesy. But Jon Voight is a great actor.

I think the things that spoiled my 2 hour experience was - i. bad graphics (but I've mentioned it's a TV movie made when I was P3) ii. the little girl meets at the end was... well, she just spoiled Jon Voight's presence there. Didn't suit the scene.

Well, that's about it. Yep, 2 very minor things .. wait, a third thing that really bothered was when he meets the third person.. when Ruby reveals herself - I didn't like her face embedded in the gateway and revealing her true self. Corny. Such a solemn sorta book, was kinda uncalled for.

Well other than that - masterpiece. Favourite part would be when he has the final walk with Captain, and when Captain talks about sacrifice. Really hit me at the moment. Call it an epiphany if you want, or some common day-to-day revelation, but when he talks about sacrifice, well, it got to me is all I can say.

I think Mitch Albom has attained divinity or something.

Can't wait to read his other 2 works.

WA, I AM SO INTERESTED,

Tired tired.

School was kinda nice today. I was prepared for the classes (a rare case in my story) and homework was done. So yes, a very good day. Chem test wasn't that hard, given the fact that I don't know much about chapter 6 and I just learnt to draw dot-and-cross diagrams the night before. And I'm glad to have done the FYS. IT period was ... IT-related yes. Was more of the entertainment IT than the 'get-down-in-the-dirt-and-do-them-videos' IT, if you get what I mean.

So I hope tomorrow will be a breeze. 3 lessons, all I'm prepared for.

Wait, I forgot there's mass workout tomorrow. Gah, half-hour of snoozes deprived.

On a smaller note (a semi quaver at least), I've tried doing Tenacious D's "Master Exploder" for band, sounds okay okay, but it's tonguing everywhere HAHA. I can't even tongue that fast.

Day 2 sir, hut hut

The day started out well, with the mass workout. At least this time I don't feel awkward with my attire (because the last time I went for workout, I was in eider pants) The workout went out faster than I expected. Ke Ping looked dumb with his school uniform tucked in into his PE shorts.

I'm very tired, I wanna read 'The Five People You Meet In Heaven' (because I have the copy of the movie already), I have homework, a chem test to mug for and the SYF presentation night review to do.

I soo love life.

dabadabdababda

Chem test pushed forward to Thursday. Well, most likely.

Started reading 'The Five People You Meet In Heaven' which Ivan loaned to me. Great book, but gets confusing at times. When I read until the part which he meets the first person, I thought "Heck, this would be a great movie"

But hey, did some searching and there IS a movie. That's too awesome. Eddie is played by John Voigt (or something Voigt) Can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

And The Blue Man is some short Arabian dude, or so I deduce.

lolcats tagged fer yer convenience

I've been asking myself the same question the whole day.

I think I found the answer.

Thanks to Jeremy & Daren. Ok, more or less Fikri also.

(ps. Not some love/emo question)

oh yea, 3E2 bagged the Highest Selling stall (at $799, the other two is 2AB and 2E3) award PLUS the Quality & Variety award (the other class is 2AB)

Mrs Lee's class has been winning every year since it started. Very uncanny, and she didn't think we would win it this round :P

C'mon, Montfort-Affair 2008, Mrs Lee will get it again :)

The new stuff

Woke up from my 3-hour nap and dragged my lazy self to the computer. Saw various people's personal messages on MSN saying they got the new Harry Potter book.

You mean it's out already?!

So I'm slow. If one were to be documenting every second of my life, he said 'Why would you care?' I was a big fan of Harry Potter last time. But once I entered secondary school, I totally stopped reading. As in TOTALLY. I nearly read finish one of the Pendragon books (which, no offense, is a way better series than Harry Potter) during the exam periods in sec 1/2 but stopped due the intense force/area pressure of, well, the exams. Next was continue reading The Da Vinci Code (which I can't finish without dishing out 17 bucks) but yes, exams.

Seems I only read during the pre-exam period.

Ok back to the topic. Harry Potter ... I have read book 3 to 5. Honestly, it was very good. Haven't read the first 2 books but I think I sufficed enough info from the movies. Don't tell me it's not the same thing because I wanna get the main gist of it not become an authority about it.

Dunno if I'm gonna get the book within the next few weeks. It'll be probably be like my Half-Blood Prince issue (which I have not read, sad to say) which I bought a year after the release, in Malaysia's MPH at around RM40. I think I got better ways to use the money.

Bleah

Now that Könzert XIV is over, I got nothing much to look forward to.

POP/Promotion - 3/8
Performance @ Heartland Mall - 5/8

yep, that's all.

Countless number of tests that I never take not of. Okay I think Physics Pressure test is next.

Bored.

I'm sick, not an inch from death.

Yes, I did not go to school again. Still sick, but much much better after proper medicine. Anyway, was reading XiaXue for fun and she made a post on Top 7 Most Disgusting Bloggers in the Singapore blogosphere (or something like that)

To tell you the truth, not a really a big fanboy of hers nor do I detest her to the point where I would curse her nose to suffer the same fate as MJ's. Yes, some of her posts are entertaining, yet some are .. well, not entertaining.

So, this (my) post isn't really focused on her and her post but the ones she deemed disgusting, specifically Steven Lim.

The 5 bloggers (minus Maddox the great and herself) did not retaliate THAT much except Steven Lim.. which can't retaliate to save his life. I really wanted to support him and his rebuttals but .. hilarity ensues.

The video is too funny to be a rebuttal. I think he's being laughed at more than being laughed with eh? I would imagine a proper retaliation be witty and proper so to put down XiaXue's post ... but it was too dumb and funny (towards him) And at the end of the video, I'm not too sure if it was even serious.

But I think that retaliating is useless in a sense. XiaXue's band of readers can beat any blog in Singapore, even if it is for moral and personal rights.

And in the video....

looks like........

....

Maybe not.

I am no cheezburger

Went to SYF Presentation Night yesterday with the Band Fusion guys. Cost me only $3! ($2 subsidy) Have to admit something. When I reached home, my temperature was like 38.1°, but really wanted to catch the concert, ever since not getting in during the JC bands adjudication.

Saw Mr Sukit in SCH. Saw alot familiar faces around, local heroes of the band scene (presumably) So I was on Row F seat 24. Wasn't on the high rise seats up above (a definite no-no for people who have acrophobia)

Overall, the concert was good. But have to say, that the combined band for Sunrise was too big. Intonation problems all over, and the b.cl/b. trb intro was ... too loud. But the sax soli was good. Safari was good, but couldn't hear the toms.

More on today..didn't attend school today (3E2 people should know why) Then Tianze and some SWO people wanted to go to my school and promote Konzert (this Saturday, get tix NOW!) So they arrived early today. Came in a big group but the girls couldn't get in the school. I seriously didn't know that girls weren't allowed, so apologies! So yep, and another problem is that the band didn't have a working speaker because Tianze wanted to play clips from the songs they're playing. Apologies again. So they advertised and it did work. More response than last week. Can't say who buying from me because later the twins would swoop in a sell them at $6 (seriously unethical, pay them to watch us)

So went back home fast. Went to the clinic and got a 2 day MC. Dunno if I should skip tomorrow. It's a 3.30pm day tomorrow. Then Friday is YRHD already. Gotta get the fondue done tomorrow night and I have not gone shopping!

ok gotta go

I am ...

... still sick

blar de blar

wasted the afternoon sleeping (5 hours!)
still sick, I think even sicker.

got amaths test.

blah.

sick sick sick sick

Woke up sick. Hate it when I wake up and my face feels squashed and everything above my neck feels sick. Sore throat also (must be from Gladys LOL okay joking only) At first wanted to pon school but just went ahead with school, since I end at 1 anyway - 3 1/2 lessons.

Coincidentally, PS & JR is also sick.

Now, I'm at home feeling very giddy. Want to take a short (which eventually will turn into a long) nap before cramming for my Amath test (which I don't know how am I ever gonna pass)

ciao,chao,chow

Lucky for You Xian it isn't called a Trenor sax

Was late for SSW practice today, overslept. Initially woke up at 7 but decided to sleep again and guess what, woke up at 8.30am! The time I'm usually already at AMK.

Okay, so dragged Tanny to Yishun. Was already like 15 minutes late. Lucky got 2 others with me (coincidentally both from my section), Nicholas (Gid's cousin) and the bari sax, Joon Lei was it?
Anyway, yup set up Tanny and did some warm ups before moving on to Aroldo.

To sidetrack abit, YX used to say he can't play the G due to some embouchure problem OR due to Tanny (if you have not read my posts, Tanny is what YX named his tenor sax) Dude, not to worry, I think it's Tanny. Since I think we're not that screwed to have the same embouchure problem and also I can play G's on the other tenors. Anyway the problem it's hard to produce a clean note. The sound is like growling+flutter=going damn high (probably an octave higher, but what do I know?) But figuring how to really get the note not to go off track.

So anyhoo, yep practice was good. Big band, more on the right side that is. Couldn't get the running notes/stacc part yet. Sad for me :(

Then after practice went to eat the cafeteria and then accompanied Cheng Fu to LJS. Damn funny how I got an idea how Fikri got his dad to buy him that 3.5k RC. I think it's true, bet he went to Bandworld bare assed :p Kay joking.

Anyway, Amath test on Tuesday on Log. Seriously, logarithms is bothering me ALOT. I had a dream about it ok. Super weird some more. Nevermind, I'm released from school at 1 tomorrow, can revise (or re-study) the whole chapter.

I just realized I'm the third one to join the ranks of Lim Guo Hong and Gary to be quoted in the MSS school blog. Ok, maybe fourth if you count that RI guy quote.

siiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaannnnnn

Too many, too much

Buns (the literal one)

Mum baking too much. Started with the muffins, then buns, then my birthday cake. then agar-agar (ok she didn't bake this) and alot alot of savouries. I'm getting sick at the taste of cake already.

Anyway, band prac in the morning was good. The band improving, maybe just in time for the Aug 5th. Revealed about the section competition, no one seemed that hyped up about it.

So skip to the YCK concert. Enjoyed the first half, especially Persis, which was great. Moorish Pirates also was great. The first note especially. Second half was okay, liked the combo band. Shostakovich 5th was nice also. Especially liked Elisabeth. But I think the highlight was El Bosque Magico lar haha. Super nice sia.

Er, to end off this tad boring post...

Name-calling in band, especially percussion section.

We got no Lemuel, Farhan, Malgene, Daniel, Jonathan & Yuan Xuan anymore.
Only got Boss, The-One-That-Always-Play-Bass-Drum (aka Bun), You, Mallet, Small Boy and BO.
Jasper & Jarrett no nick name. Maybe The-Ones-That-Never-Turn-Up-For-Pracs

Sax section also got, ever since Mr Sukit said Sesame Street the grandfather (me, bari) lead the saxes at the soli part.

I'm Elmo

Ivan is Emo

Syakir is Weirdo

Darren is Asshole

Gideon is Homo

Plaid Nightmare had his first nightmare in a long time.

Last night tried to sleep early due to the mass workout in the morning. Had a nightmare and a damn scary one, able to beat any M. Night Shyamalan or Stephen King movie. It went something like I was in school, at night, at the study area beside the General Office. I was with a few people (can't remember who though) then suddenly just got screams from nowhere. Then realized that small maggots or worms were growing out of my hands. They were just like popping out. Then I don't know how, but I knew water would kill it (like the Aliens in 'Signs') Then when I went back, got possessed sheep running around the garden near the statue. Flicked water at them then they ran off. Dreams are derived from stored memory.. and I was dissing the new horror movie 'Black Sheep' the night before, so that may be where I got that sheep part. Then that dream ends there.

Second dream after I woke up from the first one. Wasn't that horrifying but still scary. Was locked in my own room and had to get clues to get out of it. Weird, I know.

I jolted from my bed at 4. Couldn't sleep, too afraid to get back to sleep. So at about 4.10am I just slept. Guess what? Another dream, but a very very weird one. I dreamt Ellen DeGeneres had a birthday party but no one came.

I am weird la ok.

Ok 'nuff about my dreams.

So, might as well break some news out. After our performance in August, there will be a section competition. Sections got like around 2 weeks to practise 2 pieces - a choice piece and a set piece, somewhat like SYF. The set piece I have already done it. A very very simple 16-bar piece (or chorale) mainly focusing on intonation and colour. Problem is, very hard to make one for percussion. Got to find a way soon. Anyway, it's called Suo Gân. It's a Welsh folksong/melody so yep.

To end off, noticed today the band played very very well. I guess we're at that turning point.

Super the draining

Today kinda breezed through. Been along time since I've "breezed" through school periods. Learnt inverse matrix in Amath, which is surprisingly easy. Then had a small quiz during History. This one confirm fail please. I forgot about the Munich Agreement, Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact and the Geneva rearmament convention! Die die la..

So during band.. used YX's YTS-62 (a.k.a "Tanny") Somewhat conducted the woodwinds which really didn't turn out so good. Erm then had the band meeting with Ms Ong then the Sec 3 meeting with Mrs Yeo.

So yep, mundane as usual. I got some class later so can't have fun with Tanny :( Alot of homework also. Theres :
- Pressure P2
- Emath
- Read up on Light
- dunno what else

Got half an hour with Tanny. YX don't mind sia, not bad.

Montfort Presidential Elections : In A Nutshell

For the past 2 days, candidates for the spot of council president have been having their rallies. I've only heard 2 candidates' rallies and heard comments on the other 1, and 1 seems to be MIA for some reason. Only heard him during the introduction, haven't seen his rallies.

But, seeing the posters around school, 2 or so promise to give, give and give some more. Ankle socks, coloured laces, no-study week etc. In this context and enviroment - it works. So this whole election becomes this = POPULARITY CONTEST. Sad to say, it is, really a contest to show how many people like you. Getting votes by giving empty promises, very tough if in the end, what the candidates promise said actually turns out false.

In the first place, in all the obscurity, what does the council president really do? I am no councillor so I can't really give the real layout of the job. He's the head of the student body so I guess he administers stuff or something like that. But he must be a leader, so how does one gauge leadership?

I do not know.

In the topic of promises, I think when promising something, it must be realistic. I keep hearing "Guy X will let us wear black shoes leh" or "Guy Z let us wear home clothes" etc. Before the guy can let you do this, he of course must go through the school administrators. I think if the issue of school morals is brought up, the answer for everyday ankle socks, black shoes, long pants etc. would be a straight no. But if they think we need a 'change', so be it.

But no one can really 'promise' this. That's why it's an empty promise. If they say 'I will try' it sounds better than 'I promise' because the thing never happens, I think that candidate's life in school will be hell for the next year or so.

So what criterias do you place a vote on? For me, I abolish all the things that they offer (e.g ankle socks, shoelaces) I wanna see the first guy to say something about the school.. how he will make it better. The only guy I've seen say so much about the school is.....

Justin.

Maybe because he reiterates his point in his presidential rally blog (http://jpr2007.blogspot.com) by saying the graffiti wall, canteen problem, toilet etc. Others been giving what you can wear and do. Whats the point if you can wear black shoes but in the end step on the bird matter in the canteen. I think those material things must be on hold on a higher level.

So here I end my rant. Reiterating on the empty promises, if someone promise girls to the school every also flock to that guy right? Or maybe not, since the possibility of it happening is a mere daydream.

By the way, I'm not asking for anyone to vote for Justin - just that what he promises is more realistic than no-study-week. Plus, I've worked with him on OM and he was a great a person to have around. Ok I sound bias, but who cares? So since there's lack of Vote4Justin posters around school, the information superhighway will be a great way to advertise.

VOTE JUSTIN!

I think we should implement SMS voting.
60c per sms
Persons under 18 must seek parental allowance.

"Ma, can vote for the school the president anot?.. 60 cent only.." x 1400

Lethargic

Currently Playing : Celebration Song - Unwritten Law

School is draining everything out from me. After I get back, I can't dream on lying on my bed and just sleep.

Today forced myself out of bed to go for Amath remedial. I usually have those morning moments when I have something on but I'm really really tired so I get back to sleep. I woke up 30 minutes earlier ok. I AM A GOOD BOY :)

But don't really get logarithms. Don't believe that PS really did those sums on his own (PS dont bluff k :p) So for today, nothing much happened. History was more or less interesting. Anything on modern world is interesting but I don't think it would be the same if I elected for elective history. I wouldn't be taught under Mr Yeo and learn all those interesting facts. So thank god for pure history!

I've a bunch of homework to attend to.

school & band

Back to my mundane school life. Have somewhat grasped the fact that school has resumed and I think I'm more focused. Don't want to repeat last semester's vomit-inducing results.

Anyway, I'm in a bit of a situation. Not only me, but for the the twins as well. SWO will be having a concert on the 21st of July, which is a Saturday. SSW will be playing 1 song (Aroldo) on that day. The situation is that MSSMB has practices on Saturdays now. I told Ms Ong about the concert day already BUT I do not know if she will approve of us going for practices.

It's a 3-practice commitment that I have to make. I don't want to hear "Which one more important : Montfort or SSW?". It's like also saying "Which one more important : Mother in hospital or Band?". I will commit to SSW for this 3 weeks only SINCE concert is very very near, then I will focus my time on Montfort band. It's not like the band will dissolve if the 3 of us are gone for 3 practices. If this matter is to be negotiated, the least I could go for is : go for Montfort on the 21st for awhile, then go to Sembawang DEPENDING on what time Mr Ng wants us report at. Or maybe go for the 14th of July MSSMB practice.

This is just a minor issue, but I if it gets out of hand (e.g. posts being involved) then I dunno what to do. The 7th July practice will lack alot of seniors due to Youth Rally. It's also an important day, since I need to bring in the new members and get them acquainted with the places and help them get there. If not, I'm just being an ass by saying "Go yourself". I have my rebuttals in mind. The fact that it's only : 3 practices and not 3 whole weeks, I would do the same if Montfort has a concert and I would undoubtedly go for MSSMB's concert IF it had the same concert day as SSW. The fact that the concert is nearing (3 weeks) and Montfort's performances is practically a month away. I would only be missing 1/3 of the practices.

Mindless ramblings.
