seriously la, this guy really hot happy

"Kenneth quited band because the band members were jealous. Kenneth joined band later than the other people of the current batch and he attained the same rank as the others. This shows that the band members are unhappy with Kenneth, and made such a din over a small matter.

Kenneth quitted band because the members were unrespectful. They insulted him as bapoks or sissys because he quited band. Blowing instruments doesn't require strength, but it requires a larger lung than usual, which i personally does not think it is useful although it somehow increases the stamina because apparently there are some people in band, who failed their 2.4km run. This shows that the band members were self-centred, only caring how many people are there in band currently.

Kenneth quitted band because band is a waste of time. According to the primary sources, band is 3 times a week, which means that he has only 2 days to rest per week. He looks at everyone going home happily to do what they want, but for him, he is required to wait for his CCA to start. This shows that kenneth needs some freedom because of the fact that he wants to go home and do what he wants."

his post is right, except for those three.

1st thing, 1 person was jealous about his corporal rank. the most we said was "wa .. nice sia KO 3 months corporal". it's nothing to be jealous about. in band, the post is higher than the rank.
ONE nia. did gary quit band after he became SL of BOTH HORNS AND TRUMPETS at sec 2?
you get corporal, that guy jealous. wait till end of september, see if that rank stands.

2nd thing, okay so i read wrong. but because he was using imaginary words. how i know?

3rd, HOW DO YOU KNOW BLOWING VARIOUS INSTRUMENTS DOES NOT REQUIRE STRENGTH. let me see you pick up the tuba like a piece of paper.

4th, you DON'T need a larger lung. anybody can play an instrument.

5th, please man, if the chess club was reduced to 1 person, you would also want to find members right? the band is at that stage. we can't beat the NPCC or NCC in numbers. we just want a minimum number of people and we'll stay happy.

6th, so HE only waits while the other band members do what? chops liver? man

and you want to punch my face if i talk about you again? how is that possible if you keep messing with band matters. you aren't a band member, stop going into our problems.

History & 50 cents.

i'm gonna sit for my history MYE in just about 9 hours. i'm ony 45% - 50% prepared. i'm more worried about the essay writing. no reference, it's gonna be hard as hell.

so far, i've just been looking through the textbook. focusing on how the Japanese instilled fear into Singaporeans, reason for the fall of the British and the Maria Hertogh riots. if these are the main points, i don't know why we must read up on chapters 1, 2, 5, 6 & 8. nonetheless, i'll be mugging 'til around 12.30am, wake up at 7.30am (as usual) and head to school. before assembly starts, i'll go through the notes. not really a sure fire plan to do well, but i hope i still get at least an A2.

and i forgot what PEE stands for :(

moving on, the band just dealt with a near-fatal blow. 3 farts just 'quit'. yea 'quit'. nevermind.
1 quit because - 'tennis is fun, band is boring' (tennis is fun, but please, you will lose your 10 over CCA points) another because he said he suck (yea seriously) and another is really... random.
nevermind, i have taken on a self-acclaimed role of 'Recruitment Officer' heh. so far i got 1 to join or rather try out. Caleb, yes i'm trying to reel you in. and i'm asking around. so ... :)

i'm currently hooked on First Love, a saxophone ensemble piece. i have the recording by the RJCSB Saxophones during Atempo XVII. it's a recorded proffesionally so the quality is absolutely stunning. the soprano saxophonist is uber pro. name's Jermyn See if i'm not wrong. thing is, i can't hear the bass (baritone saxophone) or maybe it's supposed to be that way. go figure ;)

SSW starts in 5 more days, and i'm already excited of my double section (sax, lower woodwind). heh.

prees reed my belog.

i'm waiting for my dinner and i got this headache. damn.

Ivan, err .. Freakz Boyz, The Righteous Guy, Tofu King and Christopher went to my house to complete or rather do our english project with the topic given, silk (history, use and method)

it seemed that only Tofu King, Chris did some work. righteous asshole just messed up my room, freakshow played with his PSP and Ivan just stayed quiet. and he had to leave early for church.

and yeah, one of 'em surfed porn. great project day, eh? [i don't know if i oughta be sarcastic here(: ]

and i was looking thru my scores before deciding to type out this post, i realised i have to hold low B for 8 counts. and not the normal 8 counts (crochet = 88). it's rhapsody for euphonium, the beginning. specifically bar 28. fyi, my low notes are crappy. it sounds metallic and not stable. so this week really got to try to work on Low D and down to Bb. and i've to work on Low A. great aye.
AND I CAN'T PLAY LOW C - LOW Bb soft.gotta work on it alot.

i can't play down the scale chromatically well :(

CAN'T WAIT.

finally, got my And The Multitude With One Voice Spoke by James L. Hosay b.sax score, and gary said that we're gonna play it for some indefinite reason. hope it's not for the mysterious festival that mr sukit mentioned during a chat with ms ong. along with that score is The Planets (4th Mvmt - Jupiter) and A Movement For Rosa. yep, i sound really 'band-geeky'.

(and i realised, the previous 10 (i think) posts; 9 of 'em have mentioned something related to band. ah well.)

moving on, i will be an official SSW member on the 2nd of September (as mentioned).
even though many of the SSW members keep saying "it doesn't matter if you suck" or something like that.

BUT, who wants to show up like the biggest clown. i don't want to embarass myself there or anything.

anyway, i need work on low notes and the chromatic scale. brought back the K&M stand and my personal music stand and for some reason, my selmer S90 mouthpiece to train on.

---

for some reason, today's practice (well, before main band) was really and eye-opener. i can't do the sequence thingy (eg for Eb instrument players - GABAGABAGABAG [thirds] and GABCBAGABCBAG [fourths]) know problem with the first few notes. gets harder (for me) when i tried to remember finger sequence, that's how i roll. i dunno if i was supposed to remember finger sequence of imagine the notes. i had trouble with thirds, a disaster for fourths. especiall going down the scale. (EDCBCDEDCBCDE). need work on those.

s'long.

if there was such a union.

was rather lethargic today.

today's flag day made my trio walk around the hougang green area. ivan ng was pretty good at this. through the mini-argument or whatever the hell it was, we got thru it. not really booming compared to matthew's, louis' and shannon's but enough for the RCS. a good experience.

after the whole charade, went home. caught a few hours of sleep before tuition. went off for somerset. heh, mr. tim's front tooth came out and the usually charasmic aussie looks funny and stupid if he talked or smile. after that, went home for the usual tv and computer.

browsed around purevolume and profile jumped with the 'Alternative' genre. landed on a few good ones. i recommend Don't Look Down. there's also a purevolume collection of songs by various artists (Amber Pacific, The Dresden Dolls, The Matches etc. just to name a few) called Sleeveless.
so yeah, click here.

my keyboard blacked out on me, so i replaced it. luckily my mom didn't throw the old one away. it's an IBM model and the one that decided to be dust in the wind (figure of speech) is a Logitech.

"A leather jacket is cool but a leather vest isn't. Then I realized, cool is all about the leather sleeves."

yep, i have leather sleeves :)

FESTPIEL XVII (A Whitley Concert Band Production)

so the guys (around a third of MSSMB) and me went for Festpiel XVII by the Whitley Concert Band.
after practice, we met at the ticketing concourse of Hougang MRT. we THOUGHT we were late, and kenneth ang nearly made us miss a 2nd ride.

from Hougang > Dhoby Ghaut > City Hall > Raffles.

phooi (it's better than kenneth. so common) lent me his nano, browsed thru and finally i have a junior with similar music interests. ran all the way to VCH.

we were damn early, and we occupied the front two rows. being a group of band members, rather than bonding we were sorta 'banding'. like a loud bonding. terrence kept shouting handsome, when mr sukit was bowing toward the audience. it wasn't really filled, around the same as M9.

pieces :

Flight of The Thunderbird (Richard L. Saucedo
Florentiner March (Julius Fucik)
Grease (B. Gibb, J. Jacobs & J. Farrer)
Xylomania (Wim Laseroms)
Seventh Night Of July (Itaru Sakai)

Intermission

Percussion Ensemble (Technology)
When Summer Takes Flight (played by the Junior Band)
Brazilian Portrait (Kawano Kunihiro)
El Bimbo (Morgan? ... seriously, Morgan?)
Moonlight Serenade (Glenn Miller)
Brazil (Michael Kamen)
In The Mood (Joe Garland)

& i think a piece with the word 'tequila'? in it for the encore.

funny part during the percussion ensemble, wee muttered (audibly within the group) 'poseur!' 'cause we played technology for M9. and when the bells solo was .. well, messed up .. wee said 'ah ma better la, ah ma rocks'
sure, if i put in writing it'd sound really lame. it's those 'you-had-to-be-there' situations.

after concert was dinner or rather supper, at lau pa sat. after getting our stomachs filled, home it was .. and MRT was the transportation. oh yea, clarence said 'women X men = wo(men)²'
really lame stuff, but enough to keep you entertained thru out the ride home.

man, i really wanna meet the whitley band members. they're awesome. in many several ways :)

i assume they're made up of some sec 4s, not really sure if their sec 4s have passed over or however their system works over at whitley. they play reeeeeeallly well. we're both under Mr sukit, but still our standard is limited to grade 4 songs (FOTF lmao)

exams in 2 months (or so) and theory tests in september.
i can reach the low notes with no hardship. the test now is when the new low A-key b.sax arrives, have to adapt to the keys, and work on the low A (important for Albireo).

note to self : gideon needs help with the alto.

alif out.

my my ... again?!

i'll go straight to it.

"But the fact is that, how many such people are there"

you seriously don't know. there's how many schools in Singapore? let's say 100+ plus secondary schools. there's a few JCs. One taken by Mr Leng (Anderson), Mr Oura (RJC) and Mr Glosz for SA? 100+ schools. and there's polytechnics, local bands, SAF CENTRAL BAND. and this is just Singapore. imagine the USA, there will be alot. 51 states. let me tell you, in the world .. there's alot these.

"We are living a developed country and jobs look at certificates."

yes. that is why, when a bandie is passionate he'll go study music. it's the same bachelor's degree you'll get. Example, Degree in Saxophone performance or Degree in music and even Degree in instrument maintenance.

"If because of the passion of band and one day you failed to be one, what can you be?"

Failed? take it another time? if you've been playing long enough, you'll get that degree.

" Also, with little pay you can't possible lead an enjoyable life in singapore in the future."

Little pay? conductors don't get paid like a clerk. they get paid somewhere around a legal secretary to a lawyer. and that's 1 school, Mr Leng ... gets paid a 5-digit sum (sources :seniors) from one school. he takes charge of 5 schools. the lowest 5 digit sum is 10000 and 10000 x 5 = 50000. even it's a 4 digit sum .. x 5 ... hooooplaaa.

"i've a degree and even jobs that i don't want would beg me to join their companies. (did i exaggerate it? well, i guess so)."

so you trying to say a person who studies music won't get a degree. it's worth like a normal medical degree.

and you exaggerated.

"Since you are saying about the studies of band, why not say about mine, chess? Currently my senior, sec 3, one of them is the top student of sec 3 2006. the other 2 of them is within top 20."

the reason i didn't mention chess members is ... i don't know any freaking sec 3 there.
and i'm saying if he has a good grade average with a high-receiving CCA point group, it'll be better. duh.

"Acctually for goodness sake, did i ever mention how i loved or my passion playing chess"

first things, it's 'actually'. second, i never said you were committed. did i? i'm just saying what i get it from chess.

"each session with each school is around $250 or so"

and it's 1 session a week? 250 x 4 = 2k?
mr sukit (3 sessions a week)? 550 x 12 = 6k+
on holiday practices? mazel tov.

"As i mention just now, at lease i have a degree. For your case, if you fail to be your whatever-person, well.. what can you be?"

you keep mentioning 'degree' and 'if you fail' .. what if YOU fail and YOU don't attain a degree?
and ... if i attain .. saaay ... a degree in saxophone performance .. i can 1)become a soloist in different countries 2)conduct 3)join a renowned band and 4)TEACH A UNIVERSITY CLASS.

oh yea, WHAT CAN YOU BE?

and one more thing, WHEN DID I FUCKING SAY I WANTED TO BE A CONDUCTOR or anything with band. all i gave was 'if's and 'probably's.

I said i would have a hiatus till SAF band. i have one other aspiration (nothing with music, more toward criminal & forensic pyschology)

"Walking down the road one day maybe you would remember about kaijun and blame yourself why didn't you listen to my comment when you are nothing as a whatever-person-you-are."

so you're saying people only can excel in science, maths and syllabus studies? IF THERE WERE NO COMPOSERS, no comedy chase scene would have Rossinni's William Tell Overture.
the movies you watch, suspense-wised, what can you hear? the oboe, flute and horn.

and have you ever heard of 2 degrees? i COULD get a degree in music AND saaay psychology.
if you were to get 2 degrees, both would probably be in the same league (syllabus-based,9-5 etc.) MUSIC degree is different.

the point is, you started with the putting down of band. Anonymous said something true. don't comment on others. FIRST RULE when in school, don't publicly shame a CCA. people will get you back.

2nd round

"it's close to 9, my eyes are still crusty and there's good on tv. so i blog hopped from one blog to another to another to another, and so on so forth.i landed on a blog. it was by a schoolmate, a close acquaintance .. so to put to use. my habit of going to blogs is that i just read the posts and don't bother about the tagboard. BUT, as i said, 9am .. crusty eyes .. yadda yadda. I don't mind anyone commenting, but don't give such excuses. And what really made you a real loser is that : .. "

what excuses? i wake up with crusty stuff in my eye, and i woke up at 8.40, and blogged closed to 9. there was really NOTHING on tv. so i went to your blog, read your tagboard then the posts ... then i blogged. whoopdedoo.

and seriously how does this make me a loser:

and ps i think i know who anonymous is. and the fact he's from another school, just makes you an even bigger a-hole. and if you were ever thinking i was the anonymous because you know i enjoy being in the band, HAR DE HAR HAR. check the ip addresses.

I just said that I may now who Anonymous is. If he is Anonymous, he IS from another school. your post before the latest one insisted that it was a Montfortian, which makes you sound dumb because he isn't. and the human mind ASSUMES. i'm clearing my name

---

What Anonymous said.

anonymous: Arem
10 Aug 06, 23:00

(ok, this i don't know.)

anonymous: Hark. Look who is talking. Been superficial lately? Thank goodness you're not a band member
11 Aug 06, 22:05

(he's talking about the August 9th post. He said you're superficial because you're comparing a Sec 4, Sec 3, Sec 2 MONTFIESTA 9 Band to the National Day Sec3, Sec 2 and Sec 1 band. He's thanking god because you can't understand how is it to be worked up in a band.)

anonymous: Before you start passing unjustifiable judgements, please remember to review what about you are going to say. You don't want to sound like a hypocrite, don't you?
11 Aug 06, 22:06

(This is very true. it's similar to "don't anyhow say before you know anything".)

anonymous: If you can't remember.. tsk tsk! Heck, I bet even someone's Grandmother who has been riddled with Alzheimer can do better..
(he's saying if you can't remember to review what you're about to say, he feels sad for you. And by saying someone's grandma with Alzheimer can even remember to do that, he's saying you better remember well)

summarized : He's saying don't say anything bad about someone or something before knowing the truth behind it. and you made a freaking long post about a person telling you to follow a virtue in life.

and don't insult the band when the band didn't insult you. insult Anonymous (though he didn't do anything wrong)
---

many IQ tests will show someting like "A glove is to hand like a shoe is to ____" so i'll say this "Band to me is like you to (saaaay maths?)" you keep saying if you do well and all the crap, and you fail ... whatcha gonna do? i know you get A1s from math, i get accomplished 'A1's from band. if you're saying i cant excel in the field of music, IS similar if I say 'YOU may not get what you want in life."
before i close the post, we don't just blow instruments. give a thought for the percussionists too.

oh my, what a comeback.

it's close to 9, my eyes are still crusty and there's good on tv. so i blog hopped from one blog to another to another to another, and so on so forth.

i landed on a blog. it was by a schoolmate, a close acquaintance .. so to put to use. my habit of going to blogs is that i just read the posts and don't bother about the tagboard. BUT, as i said, 9am .. crusty eyes .. yadda yadda.

and heeeyy, what is this i see. an argument at the tagboard? ok first of all, this argument tag whachhozzhow didn't what initiate me writing this post, no siree. then i moved on to the posts.
a very long one. i read it. retaliation, hmmm.

the mindless errors didn't triggered me to do this. it was several others.

" If you wanna thank, why not go to the church, or maybe temple, or moss, or pray to the dead since its the 7th month now."

Moss? bwahahahahahahahahhaahahhahHAhahahHa (this was just for fun)

"First of all, personally for band, i feel that its a waste of time. Why do we waste our time blowing these instruments and get yourself so commited to the extend that band is like your god or something? At the end of the day after o levels , WOW CCA POINT A1!! SO DAMN FUCKING HAPPY!!!! But.. look at your o level results... 24,25 points. Minus off maybe get 23. How far can you go? Do you expect yourself to blow that damn instrument for life?"

  • Waste of time? don't you think chess is also a waste of time? a waste of time is when you do something and nothing productive comes through in the end. let's see what i've learnt and some others.
-i've learn to play the saxophone.
    -i've learnt to read music.
    -i've learnt some italian words.
-i've learnt to transposed Eb to Bb.
-i've learnt that a Bb bass clef score is similar to a Eb treble clef score (slightly)
-i've played in a concert, twice. and various performances. which deals with the performance phobia and nervousness.
    -the seniors are great.
-the teachers are great (Mr Tan, Miss Ong, Mrs Vivian Tan, Mrs Cassandra Tan)

and i'm not even completing a second year in band.
    let's see, in chess ..

-i've learnt to sit through a chess game with a straight face
-i've learnt that it takes very little energy to move a chesspiece.
    -errr ..

that's how i feel y'know. because it's MY OWN OPINION.

  • Band isn't 'god'. it's the enjoyment of playing music with friends, and mastering the instruments. duh.

  • the good thing about band is the cca points. most of us have a lot already. it's also the perks.

  • 24,25 points? you mean L1R4? or L1R5. the point is to you. you take JC as the next step of secondary school. even to other people. you know the thing is not many members go to JC. yes it's true. well, that's what i account for in MSSMB. BUT SOME, are in 3E1, bright & intelligent people. Joseph Lee Yi Hao, 3E1'06, Euphonium, Deputy Drum Major/Chief Section Leader, had 6A1s for his sec 2 EOY's.
if he did ok in o lvls, saaay 12. thats -2 off and that's 10. and that's JC for him, and another SYF.
an alumni, Timothy Misso. from what i heard from shermann, he got to SAJC by his prelim scores. yea, and he took CLB. Band is like another subject to excel in.

  • "Do you expect yourself to blow that damn instrument for life?" - Someone who doesn't know much.

that's how the world produces notable COMPOSERS, CONDUCTORS,SOLOISTS and add more off those who "expect to blow that damn instrument for life" and you'll get a bloody good band like TKWO, BOSTON POPS/SYMPHONY, PHILWINDS.

after secondary school, if i'm lucky, it's JC, it's the band there. i'm playing the trump card. i know something, i'll use it to my advantage. SAF central band then maybe i'll have a hiatus there. most people don't stop there. they'' eventually have a master's degree in music or instrument performance. my conductor, Mr Sukit. he has been playing the tuba for 14 years. he has a master's degree in music and tuba performance. he was in philwinds in the euphonium section.
there's Mr Leng, former conductor. he's in the philwinds, CM some more. my friend says he has a 5digit salary FROM 1 SCHOOL. he has 6 schools if i'm not wrong. then there's also Mr Oura & Mr Glosz.

the fact is, knowing to play an instrument, is similar is to knowing how to take a perfect photograph or knowing how to fix a computer.
it starts as a hobby or a know-how, but it can get you somewhere in life. it's similar to social security. if you're bankrupt from a business, and you realize .. "i played the oboe"
    join a band.

if you realized, my retaliation was from that one paragraph. i'm not angry you made a comment about the National Day performance (but since you're gonna hear us everyday from 2 weeks onwards) BECAUSE i know we played badly. the fact you putting down the CCA is bad enough.

and ps i think i know who anonymous is. and the fact he's from another school, just makes you an even bigger a-hole. and if you were ever thinking i was the anonymous because you know i enjoy being in the band, HAR DE HAR HAR. check the ip addresses.

i don't think you'll stumble upon my new blog. so i'll leave a tag. it'll also help you compare.

    Alif out.

i look forward to the 11th instalment.

    Songs for the moment :
    >Song of Sailor and Sea - ?

    >Albireo - Hiroshi Hoshina
    >Flight of the Falcon - Robert Thurston
    >Vigor - Sean O'Loughlin
    >To Challenge the Skies and Heavens Above - Robert W. Smith

    >You've made us Conscious - theAUDITION
    >Miami - Taking Back Sunday
    >Staplegunned - The Spill Canvas
    >The Philosophy of Time Travel - Blue Sky Mile

nevermind that, i was just freaking bored.

the two-holidays are coming to an end, didn't really enjoy it.
sure the movie outing was, well, ok.
'Click' with 6 band members and 2 other band members from other schools plus one of their brothers.
most of time we were at the arcade, either together as the whole group or MSSMB portion OR 2 -3 people from the MSSMB portion of the group.

yeah, my mind was filled pandemonium. where was everybody going and all that bullshit. plus, we looked like cheapos hanging out at the arcade with none of us payed to play. fun came from the bloody plastic guns that won't work if you slotted a credit in.

only great part was the movie itself. 4.20 pm, Click. oh yea, lunch was great. BK, Hanwen and a junior ready to be humiliated. ok, the movie. Click was great. concept is great. like the part where the newscaster announces over the radio (10 years into the future) that Britney Spears had her 23rd baby and Michael Jackson, the first man to clone himself, is suing himself for molesting himself.
    hilarious shit.

    ride back home, was boring.
overall, 8th August was okay. movie was just something to keep me occupied.

i'm thinking of getting big earphones so i can just lay on my couch and listen to the music with no one complaining.

    i also want some scores.
    namely (baritone saxophone part) :
  • Marche Slave - Tchaikovsky (though i'm getting it on Friday)
  • Song Of Sailor Sea - ?
  • To Challenge The Skies and Heavens Above - ?
  • And The Multitude With One Voice Spoke - James Curnow
  • Stars and Stripes Forever - John Philip Sousa
  • Fourth Symphony - James Barnes
  • Concerto For Saxophone Quartet and Orchestra - Philip Glass
  • Colonel Bogey March - ?
  • March from 1941 - John Williams

  • i can't wait for the new Yanagisawa baritone saxophone, with range of Low A - High F#.
just need that to play Albireo. but i still need to improve Low Bb, Low B, Low C#.
Low C perfected thanks to that small phrase in Gustav Holst's First Suite (2nd Mvmt).
so for now Highest : High F, Lowest : Low Bb :) hurrah.

ok i'll go back and humour myself with 'Comedy Central Presents'.

  • yea, i'm not going to insult any teachers. people? hopefully not.
    well, i'll try to anyway.

everybody's been sarcastically talking about our ass performance yesterday. yea, i know it's crap.
we're a band of about 38-40 people (our prime was like 70 people during 2000) and we have ass juniors who can't play properly.
it's the sec 2s first time playing the national anthem and the sec 3s' third.
yes it may be, wait, yes it was crappy. but we will back better than ever,

this such a lame entry for my first post.

anyways, the band needs 6 - 10 members to go by the SYF regulations of 45 people (which was what Mrs. Cassandra Tan said) and we need 60 people to get a gold?
our SYF band will be (terms of 2007 level) Sec 4s, Sec 3s, Sec 2s and Sec 1s. yes 4 batches. usually 3 batches. now 4.
the thing is ... 4 months to train up for either ALBIREO (Hiroshi Hoshina), VIGOR (Sean O'Loughlin) or Flight of the Falcon (Robert Thurston) with the set piece.

    sec 1'07 = 3rd clarinets? 3rd flutes? 2nd alto saxophones? 3rd trombones? 4th horns? 3rd trumpets?

luckily my lower woodwinds are intact, with Gerald with the bass clarinet, Ken Ong with the bassoon (pretty good, playing grade 5 songs after only 4-5 months) and me heading it up with baritone saxophone. pretty good for some sections like the lower brasswinds & the lower woodwinds.

    'till another time.

    i'm out.
